Before a single wall or cupboard goes in, your Leader Caravan starts life at a dedicated chassis manufacturer. It’s a separate business altogether, built purely around getting the foundations right.
- Every chassis is engineered to handle 4.5 tonnes, no matter your actual caravan rating. That’s headroom built in from the very first weld.
- The steel is pre-galvanised rather than blue or raw steel, which is the difference between a chassis that lasts decades and one that rusts out in a few short years.
- Nothing is off the shelf. With around 30 chassis on the floor at any one time, each one is custom-built to the exact caravan it belongs to, right down to the suspension.

From Bare Chassis to Family Home on Wheels
Once the chassis is done, your caravan moves through a five-stage journey across a series of factories. Each touchpoint adds another layer to what will eventually become your cherished home away from home.
Finally, your caravan heads to finishing, where the toilet, mattresses, upholstery and lounges are fitted, decals and awnings go on, and the van is weighed with everything in it, including any bike racks or extra fitments, ready for the road.
- First, the chassis arrives at the build factory, where the flooring and internal furniture frame go in.
- Next comes the wiring, followed by the walls and roof, which will either be a timber frame or fibreglass depending on the model. Experts fit all the rough-in wiring for lights, power points, and appliances.
- Then it moves into cladding and insulation, where the overhead cabinetry goes in. The roof is CNC-routed for air conditioners and vents, with wiring cut in for speakers and sound systems.
- Finally, your caravan heads to finishing, where the toilet, mattresses, upholstery and lounges are fitted, decals and awnings go on, and the van is weighed with everything in it, including any bike racks or extra fitments, ready for the road.

The Small Details You’d Never Think to Ask About
There’s so much that goes into building your dream Leader Caravan, including the quality checks that protect you long after you’ve towed her away.
- The team leak tests every Leader Caravan it builds, not just a sample. They pump compressed air through it and spray soapy water over every window, fixture and joint, checking for bubbles.
- If a bubble shows up anywhere, they reseal it and test again on the spot before the van moves any further down the line.
- The team weighs every rig TWICE, once as a bare chassis and again fully loaded, and tracks that tare weight closely. If it starts creeping up, they treat it as a signal something needs a closer look, and act accordingly.
- Before your caravan can leave the factory, a dedicated pre-delivery team checks everything from bearings and wiring to doors, windows and appliances, often spending the better part of a day on quality assurance.
